Navigating the Reorientation Phase
The Reorientation Phase is the final part of your Waji session. Here, you gently shift from the memory or situation you've been working on to imagining how you want to respond to life moving forward.
The Reorientation Phase is the final part of your Waji session. Here, you gently shift from the memory or situation you've been working on to imagining how you want to respond to life moving forward. It's about setting your nervous system up for future situations where old patterns might arise — and offering it a new way to feel: calmer, stronger, and more empowered.
You're not forcing yourself to "get it right." You're inviting your system to expect more safety, choice, and post-traumatic growth. This phase is still anchored in the session focus you worked on earlier. It's a natural extension of the emotional work you've just completed.
Step 1: Future Stimulus Exposure
Slide Prompt: "During the next set of eye movements, imagine facing a future situation that might trigger you. Picture responding with calm, strength, or whatever you most want to feel."
Objective: Visualize yourself in a realistic future situation connected to your session focus — and imagine responding differently, rooted in the healing work you've done.
How It Works:
- Bring to mind a future situation tied to the focus you addressed today.
- Visualize how you want to feel and respond: calm, collected, confident, grounded.
- Follow the moving ball as you hold this new emotional map in mind.
It's about feeling the shift in your body and emotions, not about acting out a perfect scene.
Even imagining taking one deep breath instead of freezing is a meaningful step.
Examples:
- Alex: Visualizes calmly sharing his ideas during a tense work meeting.
- Bella: Imagines staying present and connected during a family dinner.
- John: Sees himself setting a gentle boundary with a friend without fear.
- Elena: Pictures attending a gathering and enjoying herself without anxiety.
Step 2: Supporting Object or Trait
Slide Prompt: "Now, choose an object, tool, or inner strength you can carry forward. It can be real or imagined — whatever feels supportive to you."
Objective: Select a symbol of your progress that you can mentally carry with you into future experiences. This anchors the new emotional state you've been cultivating.
How It Works:
- As you follow the ball, imagine an object, image, or trait that represents your growth.
- It could be something physical (a stone, necklace, journal, or hammer), an imagined symbol (a light, shield), or a personal quality (confidence, patience).
- Feel this symbol becoming part of you, ready to support you when needed.
They can help you:
- Remind yourself you can handle difficult situations
- Stay grounded when something triggers an old pattern
- Regulate emotions in real time
- Reconnect to safety when you feel overwhelmed
Examples:
- Alex: Carries forward a sturdy backpack symbolizing his resilience.
- Bella: Visualizes a glowing light in her chest representing her self-worth.
- John: Picks an oak tree symbolizing his strength and rootedness.
- Elena: Imagines wearing a bracelet that reminds her of her courage.
- Mia: Imagines a journal symbolizing a safe place to capture her thoughts instead of bottling them up.
- David: Visualizes carrying a hammer, symbolizing his ability to break down old emotional barriers.
Trust what resonates with you emotionally.
Why This Phase Matters
Reorientation helps bridge healing from past experiences into future empowerment. You're showing your system that life doesn't have to be driven by old survival patterns — it can be shaped by your new emotional reality. Every time you imagine facing a future moment with strength, calm, or confidence, you reinforce a new way of being. 🌿
You're not erasing what you've been through — you're building new possibilities on top of it. The future can feel different because you are different.
